LPA Registration Fees and Reductions
When registering a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) with the Office of the Public Guardian, the standard LPA registration fee is £92 per document.
However, depending on your financial situation, you may qualify for a fee exemption or a reduced fee.
Full Fee Exemption
You may not have to pay the LPA registration fee if the person making the LPA, known as the “donor,” receives certain means-tested benefits.
These typically include:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit)
If you meet these criteria, the LPA can be registered free of charge.
50% Fee Reduction
If you do not qualify for a full fee exemption, you might still be eligible for a reduced fee. This usually applies if the donor’s gross annual income is below £12,000 before tax, in which case the fee is halved.
Universal Credit
If the donor receives Universal Credit, they will typically be assessed for a fee reduction instead of a full exemption.
Important Information
Keep in mind that fee reductions or exemptions must be applied for at the time of registration. Supporting evidence, such as proof of income or benefits, will be required, and the fee applies to each LPA individually.
